Ford urged to expedite Maraimalai Nagar production expansion: CM Vijay

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Tuesday urged Ford Motor Company to expedite the resumption of manufacturing and expansion activities at its Maraimalai Nagar facility during a meeting with the company’s senior executives at the Secretariat.
The Ford delegation, led by Vice-President Matthew Godlewski, discussed the company’s plans to restart manufacturing operations in Tamil Nadu, expand its Global Capability Centres and take up future investments in the production sector.
Recalling Ford’s three-decade association with Tamil Nadu, the Chief Minister assured the company of the State Government’s full support for its upcoming manufacturing initiatives. He also stressed the need to fully utilise the Maraimalai Nagar production facility by restarting manufacturing operations and implementing expansion plans at the
earliest.
Ford currently operates one of its largest Global Capability Centres in Chennai, providing employment to around 12,000 technology professionals. The company has also established a Global Capability Centre in Coimbatore. It is set to begin engine production at its Maraimalai Nagar plant with an investment of ₹3,250 crore, creating employment opportunities for about 600 people. Industries Minister S. Keerthana, Industries Secretary C. Vijayakumar, Guidance Managing Director Deepak Jacob, Ford Managing Director Simonetta Verdi and Ford India Manufacturing Director Dheeraj Dixit were present.
