Forest Fires Erupt In Kodaikanal Hills

Forest fires have broken out in multiple locations across the Kodaikanal hills amid rising temperatures, raising concerns over damage to vegetation and wildlife.
A major fire was reported on private lease and revenue lands near Pallangi village in Vilpatti panchayat. Officials said dry grass, bushes, and plants, coupled with heat, triggered the blaze, which continued until Friday morning. Though wind speed was high, the fire spread gradually, with flames rising up to 10 feet and thick smoke engulfing the area, affecting local residents.
There are fears that the fire could spread to nearby forest areas and habitations. Farmers attempted to control the flames to protect agricultural lands.
In a separate incident, fires were reported at three locations along the Chittarevu ghat road near Perumbarai. Forest officials and fire personnel, led by Vattalakundu Forest Officer Kasilingam, rushed to the spot and formed four teams to douse the flames.
Efforts are underway to bring the situation under control and prevent further spread.
