Free Sandalwood for Nagore Dargah: Chief Minister Vijay issues order

The Tamil Nadu Government has issued an order sanctioning 45 kg of free second-grade ‘Jaipogal’ sandalwood for the annual Kanduri festival at Nagore Dargah in Nagapattinam district.
The 14-day festival is scheduled to begin on November 10. At a function held at the Secretariat in Chennai, Chief Minister Vijay handed over the government order to the Dargah trustees.
Speaking to reporters, Minister Shahjahan said arrangements were being made to conduct the festival smoothly. He said he would meet the District Collector and Superintendent of Police to discuss the arrangements.
The minister added that the trustees had submitted several requests to the Chief Minister, including the renovation of the Dargah, and that the requests would be considered.
The trustees had also requested an elephant for the Dargah, as its previous elephant had died 12 years ago. Shahjahan said the Chief Minister had agreed to the request. The minister denied reports of political interference in the allocation of sandalwood. Ministers Parvez and Ranjithkumar, along with Nagore Dargah trustees, were present at the event.
