The 26th anniversary, Donors’ Day and Maha Shivaratri celebrations of the Universal Peace Seva Ashram were held at Nallagoundenpalayam near Coimbatore with participation from officials, donors and the public. Founder Guruji Shivatma said the ashram provides free food, clothing, shelter, education, medical care and legal aid to the underprivileged.
He said the organisation runs free nurseries and three schools across 15 districts in Tamil Nadu, including a school for tribal children in Gudalur in the Nilgiris. Plans have been drawn up to establish free homes for the physically ill, mentally distressed and economically disadvantaged.
He also announced a proposal to set up a free shelter in Sri Lanka for affected and impoverished Tamils and sought public support.
