Friend Arrested for Helping Candidate Cheat in Civil Service Exam Using Hidden Camera

In a shocking case of exam malpractice, police have arrested two youths from Kannur district for using a hidden camera and wireless headset to cheat during the Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) examination.

The main accused, Mohammed Sakhath (27) of Peralasseri, appeared for the KPSC written examination held on September 27 at the Government Girls’ Vocational Higher Secondary School, Payyambalam, in Kannur. During the test, he reportedly concealed a miniature camera in his shirt to capture images of the question paper.

Investigations revealed that Sakhath had sent the questions live to his friend waiting outside the exam centre, who relayed the answers through a wireless earpiece.

Following a complaint, the Kannur City Police registered a case and arrested Sakhath. During interrogation, police identified his accomplice as Sabeel (24), a resident of Mundallur near Peralasseri. Sabeel allegedly stood outside the school premises to assist Sakhath by transmitting answers through an audio device. He was later taken into custody as well.

Police seized the hidden camera, transmitter, and communication equipment used for the cheating attempt.

Officials said further investigation is underway to determine whether the two were part of a larger racket targeting competitive exams. The Kerala Public Service Commission has been informed, and both accused have been charged with exam malpractice and criminal conspiracy.
