FSSAI seals restaurant, serves notice to 12

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) sealed a restaurant on Mettupalayam Road and served notices to 12 other food business operators (FBO) for non-compliance of various rules during a six-day-long special drive conducted across Coimbatore district.

The food regulator also issued notices for improvement to eight FBOs, mainly restaurants.
A total compounding penalty to the tune of ₹95,000 was imposed on different FBOs for various violators.

FSSAI Designated Officer T. Anuradha and 17 Food Safety Officers carried out surprise checks from September 1 to September 6 at establishments that handle food in the high-risk category, which have greater potential to cause food safety hazards.

The officers inspected 462 establishments, covering hotels, restaurants, bakeries, tea shops, institutional canteens, workplace canteens, central kitchens, cloud kitchens, hostels and clubs. Dr. Anuradha said one restaurant was sealed after it was found operating in a very unhygienic manner. It was given 14 day to rectify the anomalies.
