German Woman Marries Tamil Nadu Techie in Traditional Tamil Wedding

In a heartwarming celebration of love that transcended borders, a German woman travelled all the way to Tamil Nadu to marry her Indian sweetheart in a traditional Tamil wedding ceremony held in Thanjavur.
The groom, Vigneswaran, hails from Koodampatti village near Puthalur in Thanjavur district, while the bride, Wilina Bergen, is a native of Germany. The two first met while working together at an IT company in Germany, where their friendship gradually blossomed into love over a decade.
After earning the blessings of both families, the couple tied the knot in a grand ceremony steeped in Tamil customs. The wedding featured all the cultural elements of a traditional Tamil marriage — from the soulful sounds of Nadaswaram to the sacred mangalya dharanam ritual.
The bride, dressed in a silk saree adorned with henna designs, embraced local traditions with grace and joy, drawing admiration from everyone present.
The groom wore a veshti and silk shirt, following Tamil matrimonial customs. Following the ceremony, the couple stepped off the decorated stage to personally greet and receive blessings from relatives, friends, and guests from around the world. Adding to the charm, several German guests attended the wedding in traditional Tamil attire, blending seamlessly into the festive spirit.
The multicultural wedding has become a talking point in Thanjavur, with pictures of the ceremony going viral on social media — a testament to how love can bridge cultures, continents, and traditions.
