GKNM Hospital CEO Dr. Ragupathy Veluswamy receives distinguished US fellowship

Dr. Ragupathy Veluswamy, Chief Executive Officer of GKNM Hospital, Coimbatore, has been conferred the Distinguished Fellowship of the American Association for Physician Leadership (DFAAPL), one of the organisation’s highest recognitions in physician leadership.
The fellowship was presented by Dr. Claude Brunson, President and CEO of the American Association for Physician Leadership (AAPL), at the association’s annual leadership conference held on October 22 in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA.
Established in 1975, AAPL is a professional organisation dedicated to developing physicians as healthcare leaders and executives. The Distinguished Fellowship recognises physicians who have made significant contributions to medical management, healthcare leadership, quality improvement and patient outcomes. Dr. Ragupathy Veluswamy’s recognition acknowledges his contributions to healthcare management, physician leadership and mentoring emerging medical leaders. He has been associated with AAPL’s international leadership initiatives for several years and was featured in its publication, “Physician Leadership Around the World”.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Ragupathy Veluswamy said the fellowship strengthened his commitment to developing capable, compassionate and ethical physician leaders.
He began his career as a paediatrician in New Jersey, where he spent more than two decades in clinical practice. He later held senior executive positions, including Vice President of Quality and Chief Medical Officer, at hospitals in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Returning to India in 2015, he took over as CEO of GKNM Hospital and led its transformation into a 750-bed multispecialty tertiary care institution.
He emphasised the importance of equipping the next generation of physicians with practical leadership and management skills, adding that effective leadership was essential to improving healthcare delivery and keeping patients at the centre of every decision.
Dr. Ragupathy Veluswamy expressed gratitude to AAPL for the recognition and acknowledged the mentorship and guidance he had received through his association with the organisation. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing physician leadership in India through education, practical experience and international collaboration.
