GKNMH strengthens pulmonology skills through ultrasound workshop

The Department of Interventional Pulmonology at G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital (GKNMH), in association with the Coimbatore Respiratory Society, organised the second edition of the Thoracic Ultrasound and Basic ECHO Workshop to strengthen point-of-care ultrasound skills among respiratory and critical care specialists.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Ragupathy Veluswamy, Chief Executive Officer of GKNMH, and Dr. S. Keertivasan, Secretary of the Coimbatore Respiratory Society. Consultants from the Department of Interventional Pulmonology, Dr. Sundarakumar, Dr. Senthilkumar, Dr. Vijayaravindh and Dr. Harivignesh also participated. Around 100 delegates from across the country attended the programme.
The workshop featured interactive case-based discussions in pulmonology, critical care and emergency medicine, scientific sessions, live demonstrations and hands-on training using animal models, mannequins and patient volunteers. Two dedicated workstations were set up for Basic ECHO training.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sundarakumar, Head of the Department of Interventional Pulmonology, highlighted the growing importance of lung ultrasound in bedside diagnosis and patient care. Dr. Vijayaravindh, Interventional Pulmonologist and Organising Secretary, along with Dr. Senthilkumar and Dr. Harivignesh, conducted the practical training sessions, equipping participants with advanced diagnostic and procedural skills.
Participants appreciated the structured learning modules and one-to-one guidance provided during the workshop. The hospital said it plans to make the programme an annual event and establish a Centre of Excellence for Learning Thoracic Ultrasound to strengthen respiratory care training. The programme concluded with certificate distribution and an interactive question-and-answer session.
