A 20-year-old man, identified as Sogam Naik, son of BJP councillor and businessman Sushant Naik from South Goa, has been arrested in connection with allegations of sexually abusing multiple minor girls, triggering political controversy in the state.
According to police sources, the accused allegedly lured several girls over the past three years by pretending to be in relationships and later subjected them to abuse. The case came to light after he reportedly showed objectionable videos of victims to his friends while under the influence of alcohol, following which the information was leaked.
Public outrage grew as local residents gathered outside a police station demanding immediate action. Subsequently, police registered a case and arrested Sogam Naik under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Officials said that, so far, three victims have formally lodged complaints, while further investigation is underway to identify additional victims.
Meanwhile, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Patkar alleged that the number of victims could be significantly higher, intensifying the political row surrounding the case.
