The price of 22-carat jewellery gold in Chennai today crossed Rs 82,000 per sovereign, touching yet another all-time high.
Driven by global economic trends, gold prices in the domestic market have been on a steady upward climb since July, with occasional dips. On September 6, the price of one gram of gold first crossed the Rs 10,000 mark. It stood at Rs 10,005 on September 7, rose to Rs 10,060 on September 8, and further climbed to Rs 10,150 on September 9, 10, and 11. At that time, the price of one sovereign stood at Rs 81,200, before witnessing minor corrections.
In today’s trade, the price of gold jumped by Rs 70 per gram, selling at Rs 10,280. On this basis, the price per sovereign increased by Rs 560, reaching Rs 82,240.
Silver too has surged to record levels. The price rose by Rs1 per gram, now selling at Rs 144 per gram. The price of one kilogram of silver touched Rs 1,44,000.
