Gold Prices Surge Again; Sovereign Jumps By Rs. 2,720

Gold prices rebounded sharply in Chennai on April 8, 2026, after witnessing a decline the previous day.
On April 7, the price of gold had fallen by Rs. 130 per gram to Rs. 13,860, while a sovereign (8 grams) was sold at Rs. 1,10,880, down by Rs. 1,040 compared to the previous day.
However, reversing the trend, the price of 22-carat gold jewellery increased by Rs. 340 per gram to Rs. 14,200 on Wednesday. Consequently, the price of a sovereign surged by Rs. 2,720 to Rs. 1,13,600.
Silver prices also recorded an increase. The price of silver rose by Rs. 10 per gram to Rs. 265, while bar silver was priced at Rs. 2,65,000.
Over the past five days, gold prices have shown fluctuations. On April 7, a sovereign was priced at Rs. 1,10,880, compared to Rs. 1,11,920 on April 6. The rate stood at Rs. 1,11,600 on April 5 and April 4, and Rs. 1,10,800 on April 3.
Similarly, silver prices have seen minor variations. The price was Rs. 255 per gram on April 7, Rs. 260 on April 6, and Rs. 255 on April 5, April 4, and April 3.
Market observers noted that gold continues to witness day-to-day volatility, influenced by global trends and local demand.
