The notorious Dada Rohit Kotara gang has allegedly threatened Rajasthan’s well-known “Golden Man” Kanhaiya Lal, demanding Rs 5 crore for allowing him to continue wearing his massive gold jewellery collection.
Kanhaiya Lal Khadik (50), a fruit vendor from Chittorgarh, is famous across Rajasthan for wearing nearly three-and-a-half kilos of gold jewellery every day. His love for gold has earned him the nicknames “Golden Man of Chittorgarh” and “Pappi Lahiri of Chittorgarh”, inspired by the late music composer Bappi Lahiri, who was known for his extravagant jewellery.
Kanhaiya Lal often says he developed the interest by watching him.
In his complaint, Kanhaiya Lal said he recently received threats from the Dada Rohit Kotara gang.
According to the police, he received WhatsApp and phone messages two days ago warning him that he would not be allowed to wear gold unless he paid Rs 5 crore.
He was also told to “settle the matter peacefully”.
A case has been registered at the Kotwali police station in Jaipur.
Dada Rohit Kotara, originally from Bikaner, has more than 32 criminal cases registered against him in police stations across the country.
He is believed to be operating from Canada. The gang is known for extorting businessmen in Rajasthan, and Kotara is also accused in the murder of popular Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moose Wala last year.
Police have initiated further investigation into the threat.
