A bird conservation awareness programme was organised for students of Gopal Naidu Government Higher Secondary School at the office of the District Forest Officer on Wednesday, marking World Sparrow Day.
The event was jointly conducted by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, Coimbatore Forest Division and Range, along with the Wildlife and Nature Conservation Trust (WNCT).
Coimbatore District Forest Officer N. Venkatesh Prabhu (IFS), Assistant Conservator of Forests G. Vijayakumar, Forest Range Officer V. Thirumurugan, WNCT Founder N. Sadeeq Ali, Trustee Rajiv, and Coordinator M. Sirajudeen participated. Teachers and Forest Department staff were also present.

Addressing the gathering, Venkatesh Prabhu stressed the importance of conserving bird species for maintaining ecological balance. Vijayakumar interacted with students and highlighted the crucial role of forests in preserving biodiversity.
Sadeeq Ali announced the distribution of water bowls to students to help birds cope with summer water scarcity and to encourage conservation efforts at home. Sirajudeen urged the younger generation to actively support bird protection by placing water bowls in their surroundings.
The programme concluded with a call for students to play an active role in safeguarding birds and protecting nature.
