Governor’s transfer a sigh of relief!

R.N. Ravi took office as the Governor of Tamil Nadu on September 18, 2021. Since taking office, he has caused a stir in Tamil Nadu by stalling bills, interfering in government administration, and omitting parts of the Governor’s address to the Legislative Assembly prepared by the government.
When R.N. Ravi took over as Governor, he summoned Iraiyanbu who was the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, and asked for a report on the plans and activities of the Tamil Nadu government. This was a direct intervention by the Governor in the administration of the state government. The DMK and its allies strongly criticized this.
On February 4, 2022, a resolution was passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly seeking exemption from the NEET exam. After 142 days, Governor Ravi returned it to the Speaker. In 2023, the conflict between Governor Ravi and the Tamil Nadu government reached a new peak. On January 4, the Governor’s statement that the correct word was Tamilagam instead of Tamil Nadu caused outrage in Tamil Nadu. In June, he removed Senthil Balaji, who was a minister due to the Enforcement Directorate case, from the cabinet. He later withdrew the order. The Tamil Nadu government filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Governor’s delay in approving the bills.
In April 2025, the Supreme Court set time limits for the Governor to decide on bills and reprimanded Governor R.N. Ravi.
The Governor has landed himself in yet another controversy after he asked students to chant Jai Shri Ram at a function on April 13. Is that all?
Governor Ravi read the first speech in the Assembly in full only in 2022.
In the speech prepared for reading in the Assembly in 2023, he avoided mentioning words like women’s progress, secularism, Periyar, Ambedkar, and Kalaignar. After Chief Minister Stalin objected to this, Governor Ravi walked out of the Assembly.
Governor Ravi, who came to the assembly in 2024, did not read the speech, saying that only Tamil Thai Vazhthu was being sung and the national anthem was not being played. Then Speaker Appavu read the speech. Following this, Governor Ravi walked out.
Governor Ravi walked out of the House, saying that the national anthem was not played even in 2025.
He walked out of the first session of the Tamil Nadu government in 2026 without delivering his speech.
The DMK and its allies have repeatedly demanded that the Central government take back Governor Ravi. In this situation, Ravi, who was the Governor of Tamil Nadu, has now been transferred to West Bengal.
There is no doubt that R.N. Ravi has been a major obstacle to the state government’s efforts for the development of Tamil Nadu. The Supreme Court’s condemnation is proof of that.
Overcoming all obstacles, Tamil Nadu, under the leadership of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, has witnessed tremendous development in various sectors and has received numerous commendation certificates from the Union Government itself, standing tall as a guiding state for India. The Tamil Nadu government achieved this only by confronting the Governor through legal action.
The transfer of Governor R.N. Ravi has not caused the people of Tamil Nadu even the slightest concern. On the contrary, it has brought some relief that what should have happened sometime has now happened!
