A government driver has been arrested for sexually assaulting a 21-year-old medical student while she was offering prayers at the Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore.
The victim, a fourth-year student at a private Ayurveda college in Nazarethpet near Poonamallee, had visited the temple on the 16th.
A man reportedly followed her inside. While she was having darshan, he approached her from behind and sexually harassed her.
Shocked by the assault, the student confronted him, after which he allegedly said, “This is what I will do. Do what you can,” before fleeing. She later filed a complaint at the Mylapore police station.
Police registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Atrocities on Women Act. The accused, identified as Vijayakumar (48) from Thiruvallikeni (Triplicane), a driver with the Tamil Nadu Urban Development Department, was arrested and remanded.
