A 26-year-old gym trainer allegedly died by suicide at his residence in the Mahalaxmi Layout area of Bengaluru, following emotional distress over his girlfriend marrying another man, police said on Sunday.
The deceased, Kiran, was a professional gym trainer and bodybuilder who had been in a relationship with a woman for the past three years. According to his family, the woman was recently engaged to another person and had shown Kiran her wedding invitation and wedding sari, which reportedly pushed him into severe depression over the last two weeks.
Police said Kiran took the extreme step by hanging himself at his home on Saturday evening. Before the incident, he had asked his mother for a pen and paper and went into his room. When the door remained closed for a long time, family members broke it open and found him hanging.
In a note allegedly written before his death, Kiran is said to have blamed his girlfriend and her mother. His family claimed that he had spent much of his earnings to clear his girlfriend’s debts and had been planning to marry her.
Kiran had participated in several bodybuilding competitions and had won medals, earning recognition in local fitness circles.
Based on a complaint from the family, the Mahalaxmi Layout police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
