Movement of heavy vehicles has been banned on the Bannari–Thimbam ghat road in Erode district for three days from Wednesday to facilitate smooth transport of election materials ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
District Collector Raja Gopal Sunkara announced that the restriction has been imposed in view of polling scheduled on Thursday.
Election officials and police personnel are transporting polling materials to remote hill villages under Thalavadi and Asanur police limits in the Bhavanisagar Assembly constituency via the Sathyamangalam–Bannari–Thimbam stretch on the Coimbatore–Mysuru National Highway.
Officials pointed out that heavy vehicles frequently break down along the steep ghat section, causing traffic disruptions. To prevent delays and ensure uninterrupted election logistics, the entry and exit of heavy vehicles have been prohibited until April 24.
Authorities have appealed to transporters and the public to cooperate with the temporary restrictions for the smooth conduct of election-related operations.
