The Madras High Court has issued an interim ban on the use of music composer Ilayaraja’s photograph, acting on a petition filed by the maestro seeking protection of his personality rights.
Ilayaraja had approached the court with a plea against several YouTube channels, music companies, and social media platforms, including Facebook, accusing them of using his name, image, and title without permission. He also demanded that these platforms disclose the income earned through such unauthorised usage and sought the removal of photos previously uploaded without his consent.
When the case came up for hearing today, the High Court passed an interim order restraining all concerned parties from using Ilayaraja’s photograph until further directions.
The order marks a significant step in Ilayaraja’s ongoing legal battle to safeguard his personal and artistic identity across digital platforms.
