Hoax bomb threat at Coimbatore North RTO sparks panic

A bomb threat email sent to the Thudiyalur Regional Transport Office in Coimbatore triggered panic on Wednesday, prompting an intensive search by bomb detection and disposal squad personnel.
Officials said the email warned of multiple explosions at 1.15 p.m. and urged immediate evacuation of the premises. The message also contained various claims and threats targeting the State government and law enforcement agencies.
Following the alert, RTO authorities informed the police, and bomb experts rushed to the spot. A thorough search operation was carried out for nearly an hour using specialised equipment.
However, no explosives were found, and the threat was later confirmed to be a hoax.
Police sources said similar threatening emails had been sent to other RTO offices in Coimbatore, and inspections were being conducted at those locations as well.
An investigation has been launched to trace the origin of the email and identify those responsible for the threat.
