IAS officer’s daughter dies by suicide months after love marriage

A 27-year-old woman, daughter of an IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh, died by suicide at her parents’ home on Monday, just months after entering into a love marriage.
Madhuri Sahithi Bai (27), daughter of IAS officer Chinna Ramudu of Nade School in Guntur district, had married Rajesh Naidu, a resident of Bukkanapalli Thanda in Bethamcherla mandal, Nandyal district, last March after a long-standing relationship. Though the inter-community marriage took place with the consent of both families, troubles reportedly began soon after.
According to the police, Madhuri was allegedly subjected to dowry-related harassment by her husband within a few months of the wedding. Distressed by the harassment, her father brought her back to his home two months ago, hoping she would recover emotionally. However, Madhuri continued to struggle with mental anguish.
On the night of the incident, she retired to her room as usual. When she did not come out until late the following morning, her parents became worried. With the help of staff, they broke open the door and found her hanging in the bathroom.
Police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to AIIMS Mangalagiri for post-mortem.
IAS officer Chinna Ramudu has filed a complaint alleging that his daughter took the extreme step due to dowry harassment by her husband, Rajesh Naidu. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the locality.
