The ICAR–Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering (CIAE), Coimbatore, observed the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2025 campaign by conducting a special cleanliness and awareness programme at the historic Perur Temple. The initiative was held in collaboration with Thavathiru Santhalinga Adigalar Arts, Science and Tamil College, Perur, bringing together staff, faculty, and students for a united cause.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Dawn C.P. Ambrose, Principal Scientist, under the guidance of Dr. Ravindra Naik, Head of the Centre, ICAR-CIAE Regional Station, Coimbatore, and Dr. K. Thirunavukkarasu, Principal of the College. Over 30 undergraduate students, two faculty members, and 25 CIAE staff participated in the initiative, reflecting strong institutional collaboration.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. M. Muthamil Selvan, Principal Scientist and Event Coordinator, who emphasized the importance of community-driven efforts in building a cleaner India. Dr. T. Senthilkumar, Principal Scientist, spoke on the objectives of the Clean India Campaign 2025, underlining its relevance in today’s context. Dr. R. Senthil Kumar, Senior Scientist, stressed the need for green technologies and demonstrated the benefits of vermicomposting as a sustainable waste management solution.
Participants undertook a massive cleanliness drive, removing plastic waste, sweeping pathways, disposing of dry leaves, and pruning overgrown vegetation around the temple. A live vermicomposting demonstration conducted by CIAE experts drew interest from temple visitors, shopkeepers, and local residents. Informative leaflets were distributed to encourage eco-friendly practices and waste segregation.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. S. Athinarayanasamy, Assistant Professor and NSS Officer of the College. An awareness procession with placards carrying cleanliness slogans reinforced the campaign’s message.
The event was widely appreciated by temple authorities and residents. The active participation of students ensured that the message of cleanliness and environmental responsibility was carried to the younger generation.
