Idhu Namma Attam sports festival begins

The district-level competitions of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Youth Sports Festival “Idhu Namma Attam – 2026” commenced in Tiruvannamalai on Thursday with enthusiasm at the Tiruvannamalai District Sports Ground.
The competitions, organised by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, were inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker K. Pichandi. Tiruvannamalai District Collector K. Tharpagaraj presided over the inaugural function.
The festival is being conducted across Tamil Nadu from January 22 to February 8, 2026, with events held at the Panchayat Union, district and state levels. Aimed at fostering physical fitness, sports awareness, social harmony and the overall physical and mental well-being of the younger generation, the programme spans 38 districts and 388 Panchayat Unions across the State.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Speaker K. Pichandi said the competitions were being conducted successfully across Tamil Nadu in accordance with the directions of the Chief Minister and with effective coordination by the State administration. He noted that Tamil Nadu has emerged as a pioneering state in the field of sports, consistently hosting international competitions and extending strong support to sportspersons to excel at national and global levels.
He encouraged the participating athletes to make full use of the opportunity, perform with dedication and discipline, and develop into accomplished sportspersons in the future.
District Sports Officer Shanmugapriya and officials from various departments attended the event.
