Infant dies after Hibiscus stem lodges in throat

A seven-month-old baby boy died after a hibiscus flower stem got lodged in his throat at Hejjuru village in Hunsur taluk of Mysuru district in Karnataka, police said.
The child, identified as Chinmayi, was the son of Sudarshan and Navya. The infant, who had recently begun crawling, was playing near the entrance of the house while Navya was in the kitchen and Sudarshan had stepped out.
According to police, Navya had decorated the house with hibiscus flowers for a puja. While playing, the child picked up a flower and accidentally swallowed its stem, which became stuck in the airway, causing breathing difficulty.
Family members noticed the child in distress and attempted to remove the stem but were unsuccessful. The infant was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital.
Doctors found that the stem had obstructed the respiratory tract and provided emergency treatment. However, despite efforts, the child could not be saved.
The incident left the family in deep shock and grief. Hunsur Rural Police have registered a case and are conducting further investigation.
