Injured tiger found dead in Ooty

A tiger found dead with injuries in a tea estate at Porthi village, under the Ittalar police station limits in the Nilgiris district, was cremated on the spot on Sunday in the presence of forest department officials and representatives of voluntary organisations.
The tiger was found dead on Sunday morning with severe injuries on both its legs. Following the discovery, forest officials conducted a post-mortem examination as per established wildlife protocols.
The autopsy was carried out under the supervision of the District Forest Officer, with the assistance of the Assistant Veterinary Officer from the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, along with the Assistant Veterinary Officers from Ittalar and Lower Kunda ranges. Representatives of voluntary organisations were also present during the procedure.
According to forest department officials, the post-mortem findings indicated that the tiger died due to severe injuries sustained during a territorial fight with another tiger.
After the completion of the autopsy, the carcass was cremated at the same location in the presence of all officials and volunteers. Forest authorities said samples from the tiger’s body parts have been collected and will be sent for further examination as part of routine wildlife monitoring procedures.
