Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Appavu on Friday announced that the next session of the State Assembly will commence on February 17, during which the Interim Budget for 2026–27 will be presented.
Addressing reporters at the mini conference hall of the Tirunelveli District Collectorate, the Speaker said the Assembly session has been convened under Rule 26(1) and will begin at 9.30 a.m. on February 17 at the Assembly Hall in the Secretariat, Chennai.
Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu will present the Interim Budget for the financial year 2026–27 at 9.30 a.m. on the opening day.
The Speaker said that on February 20, Advance Grant Demands for 2026–27 under Rule 193(1) and the Final Additional Expenditure Grant Demands for 2025–26 under Rule 189(1) will be placed before the House.
He said the duration of the Interim Budget session will be finalised by the Business Advisory Committee, which will meet on February 16 under his chairmanship.
Appavu said arrangements are being made to broadcast Assembly proceedings live. Details of proceedings since the Assembly last met have been digitally uploaded for public access.
At present, special resolutions and grant discussions are being telecast live, and steps are being taken to broadcast the entire session, including debates on grant demands.
With Assembly elections due in about two months, the Speaker said several important announcements are expected in the Interim Budget.
