The International Day Against Child Labour pledge was administered at the Coimbatore District Collectorate premises on June 12 under the aegis of the Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department. The pledge was led by Backward Classes Welfare Minister V. Sampath Kumar.
The event was attended by District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja, Pollachi Sub-Collector Ramakrishnasamy, and Members of the Legislative Assembly N.M. Sukumar (Sulur), Kanimozhi Santhosh (Kavundampalayam), K. Nithyanandhan (Pollachi), A. Kutty alias Sudhakar (Valparai), and K.S. Sreegiri Prasad (Singanallur).
Labour Welfare Department Assistant Commissioner (Enforcement) Subash Chandran, Assistant Commissioner (Social Security Scheme) Kannagi, Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health Joint Directors Saravanan and Vinoth, officials from the Labour Department, students of Ramakrishna College, and government officials also participated in the programme.
Following the pledge-taking ceremony, the Minister inaugurated a signature campaign organised in connection with the International Day Against Child Labour by signing the campaign register and formally launching the awareness initiative.
The programme highlighted the government’s commitment to eliminating child labour and creating greater public awareness on protecting the rights and welfare of children.
