A shocking incident unfolded at a jewelry store in the Ranip area of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, when a woman attempting to rob the shop by throwing chilli powder at the owner was caught and slapped 17 times in quick succession.
The dramatic scene, captured on CCTV, has since gone viral on social media.
According to police sources, the woman entered the jewelry shop with her face partially covered and posed as a customer interested in buying ornaments. While the jeweller was showing her some jewelry, she suddenly pulled out chilli powder from her bag and flung it into his eyes, attempting to grab the valuables from the counter.
However, the shop owner quickly regained his composure and caught hold of the woman. In a burst of anger, he slapped her repeatedly before forcing her out of the store. Eyewitnesses said the woman struggled to free herself and eventually managed to flee the scene.
The incident was captured on the store’s CCTV camera, and the footage, showing the jeweller’s reaction and the sequence of events, spread rapidly online.
Following the jeweller’s complaint, the Ranip Police have registered a case and launched a search for the woman. Investigators are reviewing the CCTV footage to identify and apprehend her.
