As part of the statewide tour ahead of the 14th Junior Hockey World Cup U21, the tournament trophy reached SRM University, Kattankulathur, in Chengalpattu district today. The World Cup, to be hosted in Chennai and Madurai from November 28 to December 10, 2025, is drawing enthusiastic participation from educational institutions and sports bodies across Tamil Nadu.
The trophy, which has been travelling district-wise across the state to generate public support and awareness, was formally flagged off to Kanchipuram district by District Collector T. Sneha during a brief ceremony held on campus.
Chengalpattu MLA Varalakshmi Madhusudhanan, Maraimalai Nagar Municipal Council Chairman J. Shanmugam, District Sports Officer Anand, university administrators, student athletes and government officials took part in the event, marking a spirited build-up to the global sporting meet.
With Tamil Nadu set to host the prestigious international championship, officials said the trophy tour is aimed at inspiring young players and promoting hockey as a growing sport among school and college students across the state.
