Sri Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated grandly at ISKCON Coimbatore – Sri Jagannathar (Hare Krishna) Temple near the CODISSIA complex, with thousands of devotees participating in the celebrations.
The three-day celebrations are being held from September 3 to 5 under the guidance of senior ISKCON leader Bhakti Vinoda Swami Maharaj. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the festival.
A major highlight is the grand 1,008-Kalasha Abhishekam scheduled from 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. The sacred ritual is being performed using 1,008 kalashas made of gold-plated, silver and copper vessels. Water collected from holy rivers and pilgrimage centres across India is being used for the ceremony.
The celebrations also feature traditional Vedic rituals, devotional songs, congregational chanting, children’s fancy-dress and traditional attire competitions, painting, singing, cultural programmes, drama and Bharatanatyam performances.
