Leech removed from girl’s nose after 60 days

A 12-year-old girl from a village in Rajasthan was relieved of severe pain and breathing difficulty after doctors removed a live leech from her nasal cavity, following nearly two months of agony.
According to doctors, the incident occurred around 60 days ago when the girl went to a forest area to graze goats and drank water from a canal after feeling thirsty.
During this time, a small leech, commonly found in stagnant and untreated water, is believed to have entered her nose unnoticed.
Over the weeks, the leech remained lodged inside her nasal passage and survived by feeding on blood.
As it grew in size, the girl began experiencing persistent nasal pain, difficulty in breathing and frequent bleeding.
Her condition gradually worsened, prompting her parents to take her to a hospital for treatment.
During a medical examination, doctors discovered a live leech inside the nasal cavity.
After a careful and delicate procedure, the medical team successfully removed the parasite, which measured nearly three inches in length.
Doctors said the procedure had to be carried out cautiously due to the risk of heavy bleeding.
Medical experts warned that such incidents can occur when people consume untreated water directly from canals, ponds or
streams.
They advised villagers to boil or filter water before drinking to prevent similar health hazards.
The girl is currently stable and recovering well under medical supervision.
A video of the leech removal procedure has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and raising awareness about the dangers of drinking unsafe water in rural areas.
