Let’s end smoking, which kills 1.35 million people

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 1.35 million people die in India every year due to tobacco use. It is estimated that one in 10 Indians dies prematurely due to tobacco-related diseases.
Only about 7 percent of people successfully quit smoking without any help. India spends over Rs. 1.77 lakh crore annually on tobacco-related diseases.
Globally, nicotine poutches are gaining popularity as a sensible alternative to cigarettes. These products are now available in 34 countries, including Sweden, Norway, the US and Denmark.  Smokeless nicotine alternatives, which block the tar and combustion in tobacco, are up to 95 percent less harmful than smoking, according to a study conducted in England. Indian doctors are also confident that this will increase the number of smokers who quit cigarettes.
Although it cannot be said that nicotine pouches are completely harmless, the Union Health Ministry estimates that they will make a meaningful contribution to India’s goal of reducing tobacco use by 30 percent by this year.
Widespread awareness campaigns are being carried out against smoking. Human life is priceless. The smoke that kills those lives must be completely extinguished. However, it will be a big challenge to get them out of the habit of smoking.
We must first prevent the youth from getting into the habit of smoking.   We must make it clear to them from childhood that smoking causes cancer. The participation of parents is also very important for this.
Nothing is impossible if we try. Let us also take a pledge with the government to completely avoid smoking!
