A man arrested for murdering his live-in partner in Morbi, Gujarat, died of a heart attack while in judicial custody today, triggering intense public attention.
Narendra Kamal Singh (25) of Madhya Pradesh and Pushpa Devi (20) had been working in the same factory and living together for the past three
months.
On November 29, a heated argument between the two allegedly turned violent when Kamal Singh attacked Pushpa Devi with a wooden stick at their residence.
Neighbours rushed the critically injured woman to a nearby hospital, where she died later the same day despite urgent treatment.
Kamal Singh was arrested soon after and lodged in jail. Earlier today, he suddenly collapsed in his cell. Prison authorities shifted him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead following a heart attack.
Police are investigating both the murder and the circumstances of his custodial death.
