A love marriage triggered violent retaliation in Velankanni, where four people from Bengaluru were brutally hacked with a machete after the bride’s relatives allegedly attacked the groom’s family.
Daniel (49) of Nagawara in Bengaluru, his wife Kalaiyarasi (38), their son Rahul (22), and Rahul’s friend Prakash (34) had travelled to Velankanni two days ago. Rahul had brought along his girlfriend, and the couple was married the same day at the Velankanni Basilica.
Learning about the sudden marriage, the woman’s relatives reached Velankanni yesterday. Police said they confronted Rahul and his family at the hostel where they were staying.
The assailants had allegedly hidden a machete and used it to hack Daniel, Kalaiyarasi, Rahul, and Prakash before forcibly taking the newlywed woman with them.
All four injured victims were rushed to the Nagapattinam Government Medical College Hospital, where they remain under treatment.
The Velankanni police have registered a case and launched an intensive search to locate the suspects and ensure the woman’s safety. The investigation is
