A woman was brutally murdered by her lover following a dispute over marriage in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district, police said.
The victim, identified as Babli, was a resident of the district. Her husband Ajay had died of cancer earlier. After his death, Babli developed a relationship with Ajay’s friend Vikas, which later turned into a romantic involvement.
Police said Vikas’s family had recently arranged his marriage with another woman. Angered by this, Babli confronted Vikas and insisted that he marry her immediately, leading to frequent arguments between the two.
Investigators said Vikas, along with his cousin Aman and another accomplice, took Babli on a motorcycle to a secluded location under the pretext of resolving the issue. There, he stabbed her to death.
In an attempt to conceal her identity, the accused allegedly beheaded the body and disposed of the head about 500 metres away before fleeing the scene.
The crime came to light after local residents spotted a decapitated body and alerted the police. Officials reached the spot, recovered the body, and began an investigation. With the help of relatives, the victim was later identified as Babli.
During the probe, suspicion fell on Vikas, who was subsequently detained and interrogated. He confessed to the murder, police said.
Vikas has been arrested, while efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the other two accused involved in the crime. Further investigation is in progress.
