Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme will not be Stopped: Finance Minister

Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu on Thursday said in the Tamil Nadu Assembly that the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme, which provides Rs. 1,000 per month to eligible women heads of families, would continue without interruption.
Replying to the debate on the Interim Budget 2026-27, he said the scheme recognises the unpaid labour and contribution of women and has emerged as a model initiative for the country. “If anyone attempts to stop the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme, Tamil Nadu will face serious unrest,” he asserted.
The Minister said the Dravidian Model government led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin remains firmly committed to social justice and inclusive growth despite various challenges. Tamil Nadu has remained a haven of peace over the past five years, and attempts to create instability have failed, he added.
He further stated that the Chief Minister has made it clear that Tamil Nadu will be the first to oppose any move that undermines federalism. Referring to policy measures, he noted that the government has officially recognised the term “Sri Lankan Tamils” in place of “refugees,” reaffirming their identity and cultural roots.
