Malayalam actor held with 90 litres of illicit liquor

Malayalam film actor Alku alias Shefik, a native of Thirurangadi in Malappuram district, was arrested by the Excise Department in Kochi for allegedly transporting liquor for illegal sale.
According to officials, the arrest was made during a late-night vehicle inspection in the Ernakulam area. Excise personnel intercepted Shefik’s car and, upon inspection, found a large quantity of Indian Made Foreign Liquor and beer bottles allegedly meant for sale.
A total of 52 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor and 58 bottles of beer, amounting to 37.7 litres, were seized from the vehicle. The car used for transportation was also confiscated.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the actor had allegedly been supplying liquor to customers during night hours. Officials said he was travelling to Ernakulam to deliver the consignment when he was caught during the raid.
Shefik has appeared in minor roles in several Malayalam films and made his debut in “Autorickshaw.” He also featured in the film “Action Hero Biju.” Further investigation is under way to ascertain the source of the liquor and possible links in the distribution network, excise officials said.
