Man promising marriage, cheating woman of Rs 1 crore

A sensational case of alleged sexual exploitation and large-scale cheating has been reported from the Bagalakunte police station limits in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Police said the accused has been identified as Subhash Shukla, aged 27, a resident of the same locality. He became acquainted with the victim’s family through her sister-in-law and gradually gained their confidence by frequently visiting the house.
Investigations revealed that Subhash Shukla developed a relationship with the young woman and promised to marry her. Claiming that he had secured employment in Mumbai, he took her there, where they lived together in a rented apartment while posing as husband and wife, without any legal marriage.
The woman later discovered that the accused was already married. When she questioned him, he allegedly assured her that he would divorce his wife and marry her, leading to frequent disputes. She subsequently informed her parents, who lodged a complaint with the Bagalakunte police.
Police arrested Subhash Shukla after he went into hiding.
During interrogation, officials said he admitted to sexually exploiting the woman under the false promise of marriage and cheating her of jewellery and cash worth around Rs one crore.
The accused is also alleged to have threatened the woman and her family with dire consequences if she revealed the matter. Police said preliminary inquiries suggest that he may have similarly cheated other women as well.
Efforts are under way to recover the jewellery and cash, and a detailed investigation is continuing. The case has triggered shock and outrage in the area.
