Police have arrested a 36-year-old man who allegedly married 22 women across Kerala while being involved in multiple theft cases.
The arrest followed a chain-snatching incident in the Attingal area near Thiruvananthapuram, where a seven-sovereign gold chain was snatched from an elderly woman walking along a road. Based on the complaint, Attingal police registered a case and launched an investigation.
During the probe, police identified the accused as Baguleyan from Vattiyurkkavu. He went into hiding after learning that police were searching for him but was later traced and arrested near the Neyyar Dam area.
During interrogation, Baguleyan reportedly told police that he had married women in several districts. Investigations revealed that he targeted divorced women and married them using different names such as Das, Babu, Sundaran, Rajan and Vijayan.
Police said he allegedly committed thefts and robberies to provide jewellery for the women. More than 50 theft cases are reportedly registered against him across Kerala. He was later produced before the Attingal court and remanded in judicial custody.
