The main accused in the Guduvanchery murder case, in which a woman’s body parts were found inside a suitcase placed on a train, has been arrested in Manipur, according to police.
The case came to light after human remains were found inside a suitcase on a train travelling from Chennai Central to New Delhi in the first week of August. Police later traced the suitcase to a rented house in Guduvanchery.
During the investigation, police searched the house where the suspects had reportedly stayed and found additional human body parts inside a large cooking vessel. The vessel was sent to Chengalpattu Government Hospital for examination.
The deceased has been identified as Haidul Nisha, a resident of the Tambaram area. Her son had reportedly lodged a complaint after she went missing while staying with the suspects.
Police identified the suspects as Manik Uddin Laskar and his wife, Bhagmati Majik. Their mobile phone signals indicated that they had fled towards Odisha. Police teams pursued them, but the suspects subsequently moved to Manipur.
Police have now arrested Manik Uddin Laskar in Manipur, while efforts are continuing to trace his wife.
CCTV footage played a crucial role in the investigation. Police examined around 350 CCTV recordings and identified a man and woman carrying the suitcase to Chennai Central railway station.
The investigation is continuing to establish the circumstances and motive behind the murder.
