Mastermind behind fake medicine manufacturing racket held

Delhi Police have arrested Pramod Kumar Gupta, aged 67, a factory owner, for his alleged role as the mastermind behind a fake medicine manufacturing racket operating in the national capital.
Police said Gupta was arrested from the Hazrat Nizamuddin area following sustained surveillance and investigation.
During the probe, another illegal manufacturing unit linked to the accused was unearthed.
According to police officials, the racket was involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit Betnovate ointment, including Betnovate-C, which was supplied across several parts of North India.
More than 50,000 fake Betnovate tablets were seized during raids conducted at the premises. The police also recovered a large quantity of counterfeit cosmetic products, including 700 tubes of fake Fair and Lovely cream and 800 tubes of fake Veet hair removal cream.
The products were found to be manufactured without any authorisation, posing serious health risks to consumers.
Investigators said the arrest of Pramod Kumar Gupta followed the earlier detention of Shree Ram and Gaurav Bhagat in connection with the case.
Efforts are now under way to identify the full supply chain and apprehend others involved in the manufacture and distribution of spurious medicines and cosmetic products. Police said further investigation is continuing.
