Mayonnaise ban extended for another year

The Tamil Nadu government has extended the ban on mayonnaise for another year, continuing restrictions first imposed in April last year following multiple complaints of food poisoning linked to its consumption.
Mayonnaise, a popular condiment among people of all age groups, is typically prepared using egg whites, vegetable oil and vinegar. It is widely used in food items such as sandwiches, shawarma and burgers, enhancing their taste and appeal. However, concerns over public health emerged after several cases of food poisoning were reported, allegedly caused by mayonnaise served along with fast food items, particularly shawarma. Acting on these complaints, the state had initially enforced a ban to prevent further health risks.
With safety concerns persisting, the government has now decided to prolong the ban, aiming to safeguard consumers and ensure stricter food safety standards across eateries in the state.
