MDMK to contest all four seats under rising sun symbol

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam General Secretary Vaiko has announced that all four party candidates will contest under the Rising Sun symbol in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The MDMK, a constituent of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, has been allotted four constituencies — Madurai South, Modakkurichi, Kadayanallur and Sirkazhi.
Earlier, Vaiko had indicated that the party would contest under a separate symbol in Sirkazhi.
However, he clarified on Wednesday that all four candidates would now contest under the DMK’s ‘Rising Sun’ symbol.
As part of the alliance arrangement, the DMK is set to contest 164 seats, while select alliance partners, including the MDMK, will contest a portion of their seats under the common symbol.
The move is seen as an effort to consolidate votes and present a unified front in the upcoming Assembly elections.
