Mdmk Urges Permanent Bus Services At Old Dharmapuri Stand

The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has urged the district administration to operate buses permanently from the old Dharmapuri bus stand, citing inconvenience to passengers and revenue loss to the municipality.
MDMK Dharmapuri District Secretary Ko. Ramadoss submitted a petition in person to the Regional Transport Officer on Wednesday. In the memorandum, he stated that a new bus stand was recently inaugurated on private land along the Dharmapuri–Pennagaram Road due to space constraints at the old facility.
However, passengers travelling from Aroor, Pappireddipatti, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupathur, Mathur and Pochampally have been severely affected following the shift. The municipality has also reportedly incurred substantial revenue losses.
Following representations from political parties, traders, social activists and the public, the district administration has temporarily permitted buses to operate from the old bus stand to the above destinations, considering traffic congestion in the four-road junction area.
The party demanded that shops at the old bus stand be cleared and the premises expanded. If required, a two-storey bus terminus should be constructed with adequate commercial space, and inter-district and inter-State buses should function under full government control after acquiring necessary land.
District Treasurer C. Kripanandan, Executive Committee Member M. Kumaravel, City Secretary C. Pattu Subramanian, Union Secretaries Gandhi, Saravanan, Sivaraman, Manavaran Shankar, Women’s Wing functionary Sudha Saravanan and other office-bearers were present.
