A mega eye camp was organised at St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, on August 27 by Tamil Nadu Power Limited (NTPL), the Department of Computer Science and the Community Development Programme (CDP) under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA).
Thoothukudi City Municipal Corporation Mayor P. Jegan delivered the inaugural address and inaugurated the camp. P. C. Ragupathy, Additional Chief Manager – Human Resources (CD), NTPL, was the guest of honour.
College Secretary Rev. Sr. Dr. K. Kulandai Therese, Principal Rev. Sr. Dr. C. Shibana, Controller of Examinations Rev. Sr. K. Reetha and Director of the Self-Supporting Stream Rev. Sr. Dr. A. Arockia Jenecius Alphonse graced the occasion.
Dr. S. Bulomine Regi, UBA and CDP Coordinator, Dr. J. Anila Maily, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Science, and Dr. S. Mary Selvi, Assistant Professor and CDP in-charge, coordinated the camp.
Free eye check-ups were conducted, and spectacles were provided to those in need. Free cataract surgeries were also arranged at Aravind Eye Hospital, Thoothukudi.
The camp also created awareness among students and the public about vision-related problems, the importance of timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
