Minister Rajendran inaugurates Rs 54 Lakh projects in Omalur Taluk

Tourism Minister Rajendran on Tuesday inaugurated new full-time fair price shop buildings constructed at a total cost of Rs 28.56 lakh in Periyakadayampatti and Tholasampatti in Omalur taluk, Salem district, and also flagged off the construction of a new tar road at an estimated cost of Rs 26 lakh in Paruthikaranur, Chikkapatti panchayat.
The new ration shop building at Periyakadayampatti in Chikkapatti panchayat was constructed at a cost of Rs 13.56 lakh under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
The outlet, which was earlier functioning under the S.285 Venkatajalapathy Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Society, will benefit 980 family card holders from Chikkapatti, Periyakadayampatti, Manganoor and Chinnakadampatti areas.
Similarly, a new full-time fair price shop building constructed at a cost of Rs 15 lakh under the same scheme was inaugurated at Tholasampatti.
The shop, run by the S.289 Manathal Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Society, will serve 557 family card holders from Tholasampatti, Rajaveethi, Tholasampatti Bus Stand, Marketpet and Chottayanur.
Rajendran said that in the last three years, 192 new fair price shops, including 129 full-time and 63 part-time shops, have been opened across the State.
In Salem district, 1,766 fair price shops, comprising 1,307 full-time and 459 part-time outlets, are functioning under the Public Distribution Scheme, benefiting 11,13,963 family card holders.
Under the Chief Minister’s doorstep PDS delivery scheme for the elderly and differently abled, essential commodities are being supplied to 1,06,463 beneficiaries linked to 1,02,487 family cards through 1,745 fair price shops in Salem district.
Registrar of Cooperative Societies Rajkumar, Deputy Registrar Balaji and District Development Officer Umashankar, along with other officials, participated in the events.
