Minister Sampath assures strict action if irregularities found in Periyar Arivulagam book purchase

Minister Sampath Kumar has warned that strict action will be taken if allegations of irregularities in the purchase of books for the Periyar Arivulagam Library in Coimbatore are established.
Speaking to reporters, the Minister said officials would examine the allegations of inflated prices and irregularities in the procurement process. A committee would be constituted to investigate the matter, and action would be taken against those responsible if wrongdoing was confirmed.
Earlier, a bank loan linkage programme for women self-help group entrepreneurs was held at the Coimbatore District Collectorate. Minister Sampath Kumar, District Collector Pavan Kumar G. Giriyappanavar and Sulur MLA Sukumar participated in the event.
Bank loans worth Rs. 92 crore were distributed to 618 women self-help groups in the district.
The Minister had also participated in an interaction programme with college students organised by the district administration and the School Education Department. He explained various government initiatives for students, following which sweets were distributed.
Addressing reporters, Sampath Kumar also said the government was committed to providing quality bicycles to students according to their preferences. He added that procurement would be made only from eligible companies.
Rejecting concerns over unusually large tenders, the Minister said there was no possibility of issuing tenders exceeding Rs. 100 crore or Rs. 200 crore for the bicycle procurement programme.
