Minister Vignesh releases list of 717 closed TASMAC shops

Tamil Nadu Prohibition and Excise Minister Vignesh on Tuesday released the list of 717 TASMAC liquor outlets that have been shut down across the State as part of the government’s policy decision.
After assuming office as Chief Minister, Vijay had directed the closure of TASMAC outlets functioning near places of worship, educational institutions and transport hubs. Following the order, the identified shops were gradually closed.
The issue recently gained attention after Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran alleged that the government had refused to provide details of the closed outlets under the Right to Information Act. Responding to the criticism, Minister Vignesh confirmed that 717 shops had been shut and released the district-wise list.
According to the data, the Madurai region recorded the highest number of closures with 290 outlets, followed by Coimbatore with 179. Chennai and Salem regions accounted for 82 closures each, while Tiruchirappalli region recorded 84.
The published list contains details including shop numbers, districts, regions and the total number of outlets closed. The government stated that the move was aimed at reducing public inconvenience and ensuring compliance with location-based restrictions on liquor retail outlets.
