Missing College student’s body recovered from pond

The body of a missing college student was recovered this morning from Ukkadam Periyakulam after a three-day search, bringing a tragic end to the case that began earlier this week.
Sivakumar, a resident of Telugupalayam LIC Colony near Selvapuram in Coimbatore, had lodged a complaint after his 19-year-old son, Subhash, failed to return home. Subhash, a B.Com student at a private college, left for classes as usual on the morning of November 26 but did not come back even late into the evening.
Concerned, his mother phoned him. During the call, Subhash reportedly told her that he was feeling depressed due to low exam marks. His parents tried to console him and asked him to return home, but he did not. Despite searching for him in several places, they could not trace him. Later, a book bag was found abandoned on the bank of Ukkadam Periyakulam. On inspection, the family confirmed it belonged to Subhash. Shocked, his parents immediately filed a missing persons complaint at the Periya Kadai Street Police Station.
Police rushed to the spot and began a search but found no trace of the student. Suspecting that he might have jumped into the pond, the police alerted the Fire and Rescue Services.
A seven-member team from the Coimbatore South Fire Station reached the area that night and launched a search operation. However, poor lighting forced them to suspend operations. Firefighters resumed the search yesterday morning and continued throughout the day, but the student’s body could not be located.
This morning, on the third day of the search, firefighters finally recovered Subhash’s body from a deep section of the pond. Heartbroken family members broke down upon seeing the body.
While the Madukkarai police had initially registered a missing-person case, the Periya Kadai Street police are now investigating the incident as a suspected suicide.
