Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam MLA P. Revanth Saran has been appointed as a member of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA). He represents the Maduravoyal Assembly constituency.
CMDA is responsible for planning and development activities in the Chennai Metropolitan Area, including land use planning, development permissions and other urban development-related functions. The authority functions under the Tamil Nadu Government’s Housing and Urban Development Department.
The Chennai Metropolitan Area covers parts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Ranipet districts. CMDA was originally established in 1972 as the Madras Metropolitan Development Authority.
The authority plays a key role in guiding urban development not only in Chennai but also in its expanding suburban areas.
